CULTURE IS THE MOST DISREGARDED

Culture

”Split and breakdown of people’s will endanger Armenia like the other post-Soviet states”, writer and publicist Armen Hovanisyan thinks.

Representatives of various social unions have today gathered in the hall of National Academy of Sciences. They are alarmed for the attitude of state towards culture in Armenia. Both in the Constitution in force and in 3 constitutional bills suggested the culture policy is neglected.

”Culture is now the most disregarded”, Levon Ananyan, Chair of Writers’ Union of Armenia, says. He thinks not only the officials and the society but also the intellectuals themselves don’t realize the real value of culture.

The labour right is not provided in the new constitutional bill, which will abet emigration, the meeting participants think.

A conception was introduced to the participants of the discussion, which will support the safe and natural development of culture in Armenia. It was suggested to set up a working group. The proper proposals will be made to it by January 30, 2005. In spring National Academy of Sciences and creative unions will hold a Culture Congress.
