Lifer cuts veins in Armenia

A lifer has reportedly cut his veins in the Nubarashen Criminal Penitentiary in Armenia.

Talking to A1+, Gor Ghlechyan, Spokesperson for the Penitentiary Department at the Justice Ministry, said before resorting to self-harm, the man, Harutyun Khachatryan, set illegal claims to the prison administration, including doctors, and demanded that they give him more drugs than had been prescribed to him.

“At present, Harutyun Khachatryan is under medical supervision. His condition is described as normal. At first he was transferred to the Hospital of Convicts penitentiary institution. After receiving the necessary medical care he returned to the Nubarashen prison,” said Mr Ghlechyan.

He says the lifer did not explain why he wanted additional medication. “Investigation will reveal all details,” he said.
