Amnesty applied after Ombudsman’s intervention
The NA 2013 decision on “Amnesty announcement” wasn’t applied to a citizen sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment. Not getting clear answer, why amnesty wasn’t applied to her son, prisoner’s mother turned to Ombudsman Karen Andreasyan. Ombudsman cleared out that after amnesty announcement, the prison sent a request to the Judicial Department to learn whether amnesty is applicable to the prisoner. Three requests during 5 months got the same answer: a civil lawsuit had been initiated against the defendant, which wasn’t accepted by the Court because of the wrong data. As a result, amnesty wasn’t applied to the defendant. After Ombudsman’s letters to the Prosecutor's Office and Ministry of Justice, amnesty was applied to the prisoner. Staff of the Ombudsman
