Representatives of Gyumri’s Shirak Centre NGO have visited an elderly woman who lives alone in a rundown dormitory belonging to the former Lentextile Combine in Gyumri all her. The devastating earthquake of 1988 made the building dilapidated, however many families continue to live in its ruins and are deprived of public amenities. There are no water or sewage facilities. Residents use the collapsed section of the dorm as a toilet. Talking to Shirak Centre NGO, the elderly woman said she was recruited to work at the factory at the age of 12 and had worked at Lentextile Combine for 50 years. She was brought to the factory from an orphanage. It is with pain and longing that the woman remembers the years spent at the once powerful enterprise that employed thousands of people. She starts her days going to the factory and sitting on its ruins and recalling the happiest days in her life.
