A group of citizens gather outside court in support of jailed colonel

A group of citizens have gathered outside the Court of Yerevan’s Arabkir and Kanaker-Zeytun administrative districts which is to start the hearing of army reserve colonel Volodya Avetisyan in a couple of minutes.

They call for an immediate release of the jailed colonel, who they say was imprisoned for his political views. The group is holding posters which read, “Avetisyan is a political prisoner.”

Volodya Avetisyan is a participant of the Artsakh war who took part in the liberation of Karvachar and headed Vardenis detachment.

He was detained on September 20, 2013, on suspicion of receiving $2000 from an official of the Ministry of Defense for assistance to release an Armenian citizen from military service.
