Serzh Sargsyan: Karabakh people’s opinion should be taken into consideration in peace process (video)
The Karabakh conflict cannot be solved in a military way as it will further strain the situation, Serzh Sargsyan told at a joint briefing with the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, the President of the Swiss Confederation and the Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs Didier Burkhalter. Serzh Sargsyan reaffirmed Armenia’s desire to achieve a quick solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. “The threat of force and the ongoing violations of ceasefire derail the negotiation process. When we speak of confidence-strengthening measures, we clearly state that the respect for the Nagorno-Karabakh people is of primary importance. Eventually, this struggle is a national-liberation struggle, and there can be no solution without taking into account this fact,” said Serzh Sargsyan. The Armenian leader underlined the necessity of considering Karabakh people’s opinion in order to make the peace process more efficient. During the meeting, the two presidents agreed that the format of the OSCE Minsk Group is the most optimal format of the conflict settlement “I asked the president of Switzerland to convey to the colleagues [in the organization] Armenia’s unbiased interest in continuing the mutual cooperation in democratic reforms, human rights and freedom of speech,” said Serzh Sargsyan.
