The OSCE's Chairperson-in-Office has started a tour of the South Caucasus with a visit to Azerbaijan. Didier Burkhalter, who is also the Swiss foreign minister, arrived in Baku on June 1. Today, Burkhalter met with Azerbaijani leader Ilham Aliyev. The interlocutors discussed issues related to the Karabakh conflict and cases of ceasefire violation. The OSCE official expressed his regret over the growing number of ceasefire violations. He called on the sides to honour the ceasefire agreement and investigate the cases of violations, encourage human contacts and take further confidence-building measures. On June 3, Burkhalter will visit Georgia. His tour of the region will end on June 4 with a visit to the Armenian capital, Yerevan.
