Armenia’s former prime minister, Tigran Sargsyan, is poised to become Armenia’s Ambassador to the United States, Asbarez.com reports quoting Yerkir.am. According to Yerkir, on the same day that the appointment of Hovik Abrahamian as the new prime minister was announced, Sargsyan’s new role was also revealed. Sources also revealed that an application for Sargsyan’s appointment has been submitted for review by the US. Armenia’s Foreign Ministry, however, stated that ambassadorial appointments are made through presidential decrees. Sargsyan resigned his position as prime minister in early April, saying that he had informed the president of his intentions but was asked to stay on to manage the application to the Constitutional Court of Armenia’s controversial pension reform plan. In other diplomatic news, Armenia’s former ambassador to the United Nations, Karen Nazaryan was named Deputy Foreign Minister, while Armenia’s Ambassador to the UK Armen Sarkisian will add the representation of Ireland to his portfolio.
