Armenian Parliament to convene special sitting May 12 (video)

Today’s parliament sitting was chaired by the newly elected speaker of the Armenian National Assembly, Galust Sahakyan. Artsvik Minasyan, a lawmaker from the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (Dashnaktsutyun), said the bill on the Law on Funded Pensions which was submitted by the prime minister on Tuesday was to be discussed within 24 hours.  In reply, Galust Sahakyan said the bill will be discussed at a special session on May 12. Then the NA continued the sitting to put the bill on amending the Law on Excise Tax to a vote. The vote was boycotted by MPs from the Heritage Party, Armenian National Congress (HAK), Country of Law (OEK) Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) and Armenian Revolutionary Federation (Dashnaktsutyun). The bill suggests that the luxury tax be removed in Armenia. The bill was adopted with 67 votes for and one abstention.
