“To go to Oshakan without any feeling is to be a non-Armenian” , Bishop Navasard Kchoyan, leader of Ararat diocese announced in “Saint Mesrop Mashtots” cultural centre.

According to him, “Mesrop Mashtots lit the torch of our mind and soul, and we are obliged to always keep it alight” .

On June 20-21 a scientific conference on “Aragatsotn: Spiritual and Cultural Heritage” for the 1700th anniversary of consecration of Echmiadzin Church is taking place in Oshakan. Clergymen, scientists, ethnologists, art workers are taking part in it.

After publishing the materials of the scientific conference it will be possible to obtain complete information about Aragatsotn Province, Vladimir Barkhudaryan, Academician of National Academy of Sciences, says. This province is one of the territories, rich of historical and cultural monuments. In 2002 Government approved the list for the monuments in Aragatsotn, under which 1755 monuments were stately registered. They are tombs, territories for sepulchres, churches, castles, bridges and mills.

According to Gagik Gyurjyan, head for Agency of Monument Protection, the sums allowed by the Armenian Government are not enough for restoration and protection of the monuments, so they look for alternative ways to solve those problems . Gyurjyan says Amberd might be reconstructed by Italian Government money, Ushi Church by Germany one, Aghcq Monument by Norway Government finances.
