On April 23, Armenia’s first President Levon Ter-Petrosyan met with the Minister of Defence of Lithuania Juozas Olekas. This is not their first meeting. The first meeting was held in 1989, when Juozas Olekas, together with Academician Andrey Sakharov and Galina Staravoytova, struggled for the release of the Karabakh committee members. Then they met in 1991 during the January events in Latvia when Levon Ter-Petrosyan left for Vilnius as a member of the USSR Federal Council to participate in the conflict resolution. On the request of the guest, Levon Ter-Petrosyan presented the domestic political situation in Armenia and highlighted the challenges facing the country, including system corruption, emigration and violation of democratic freedoms. The interlocutors also discussed regional problems.
