THE FIRST ARMENIAN-TURKISH DICTIONARY

Culture

25 years ago Kathy Gundakchyan decided to compile an Armenian-Turkish dictionary. Her wish came true only in 2003. The Armenian-Turkish dictionary, numbering 20.000 words, was published in 500 copies.

Historian Gundackchyan used the principle of bilingual word writing, Turkish and English. “I meet many specialists for Turkish and I have concluded – those knowing Turkish don’t know grammar and the contrary” , she says.

Though Kathy Gundakchyan is not a specialist for Turkish, she resided near the Turkish for years and knows Turkish since childhood. She thinks one must know the language of his enemy to win him.
