NEWLY ERECTED MONUMENT FACES STRONG CRITICISM

Culture

“Arno Babajanyan’s statue resembles a vampire rather than a great composer”, a number of art critics say. The monument has to be dismantled before opening ceremony, they said at press conference held today in the House of Journalists. “There is absolutely no resemblance with Arno Babajanyan. It is no more than a nasty grin at the composer and his legacy”, Babajanyan’s friend Alexander Harutyunyan said.

Composer Edvard Mirzoyan blamed the sculptors for libelling him by saying that he approved the statue. However, Mirzoyan stated that he had heard some favourable opinions concerning the sculpture. It is became clear in the course of the press conference that several art critics, who find the statue is a mere nonsense, have never seen it.

Babajanyan’s fund president Robert Hakobyan informed the press conference participants that the monument has been ordered in early 80s.

He expressed regret about $50,000 allocated by the president of Football Federation Ruben Hayrapetyan were spent in vain and said it was a biggest funding in the area of art.

Hakobyan urged art critics to launch protest actions until monument dismantling. They didn’t react to the call and demanded to appeal to the republic president.
