An employee of “Armen Karpet” carpet factory, Marine Kirakosyan, speaks about the process of working. “We make small knots from big bundles to fix it to the machine.” The former owner of the factory sold the business a year ago as he could not earn any profit. “We have profit at this moment though it is very small. I am doing my best not to lose the business,” says Erik Hambardzumyan, the director of the factory. Carpet weaving is no longer considered to be profitable in Armenia. On the other hand, the local market is small and filled with Turkish rugs, which, according to Erik Hambardzumyan, do not meet the standards.
