The Constitutional Court of Armenia has started hearing on the appeal against a controversial pension reform that foresees social security deductions from many workers’ wages. The appeal was submitted to the Court by Dem am (I am againts) pressure group campaigning against the reform and the four opposition parties in parliament - Armenian National Congress (HAK), Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK), Armenian Revolutionary Federation-Dashnaktsutyun and Heritage. They demanded that the Constitutional Court repeal a corresponding government bill that took effect on January 1 or at least halt its implementation and recognized the mandatory pension component anti-constitutional. The sitting is attended by a number of lawmakers, including Aghvan Vardanyan, Armen Rustamyan, Elinar Vardanyan, Vahe Enfiajyan, levon Zurabyan, Armen Martirosyan and many others.
