The hearing into the criminal case on large-scale abuse involving Vazgen KHachikyan, former head of Armenia’s Social Insurance State, will resume on April 1. The case is being investigated by the chief investigation department of the police dealing with special cases. Arshak Vardanyan, a judge of Yerevan's Kentron and Nork Marash District Court, will judge the case. In February, Judge Mersop Makyan recused himself, saying he was a coursemate of Vazgen Khachikyan. The former head of the service and 12 other employees are tried on charges of embezzling large sums allocated for the payment of various social benefits. The total damage to the state amounted to 376.716.903 drams of which 51.773.902 have been restored.
