Deputy Prime Minister Armen Gevorgyan today met with the villagers of Aragatsotn region who blocked on Wednesday Aparan-Yerevan highway in protest against the construction of a hydropower plant in the community. The official said he interrupted his consultations in Yerevan and hurried to the region as soon as he heard about the protest. The deputy premier reminded the villagers that a commission had been set up to look into the matter.
“The commission is to make a decision within two days. Then I shall come here on Friday or Saturday to meet you again,” said Mr. Gevorgyan.
One of the protesters, on behalf of the villagers, said they did not want the hydroelectric power plant to be constructed on the Aparan reservoir. “It will be built only over my dead body!” he said.
