Over 102 cases have been instituted in Armenia because of elite wheat. The Ministry of Agriculture demands that villagers pay for wheat seeds in compliance with a preliminary agreement. About 3-4 years ago, Armenia improved from Russia seeds of elite wheat and provided them to farmers saying they would get a better yield of wheat. It was agreed that the villagers would pay twice after the harvest. However, the opposite happened.
Hrach Berberyan, Chairman of the Agrarian Rural Union NGO, says the Ministry is pressurizing farmers, who are likely to sue the Ministry for the low-quality seeds.
