Levon Aronian defeats Azerbaijani Shakhriyar Mammadyarov
Armenian Grand Master Levon Aronian defeated Shakhriyar Mammadyarov of Azerbaijan during the second round of contenders’ chess tournament in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia. From the very beginning, the Armenian GM looks poised to win and defeated the Azerbaijani GM on the 44th move. After the win, Aronian shares 4th-5th positions with Bulgarian chess grandmaster Veselin Topalov. Indian GM Viswanathan Anand tops the tournament with Russian GMs Peter Svidler and Vladimir Kramnik.
