People send letters of support to Hrachya Harutyunyan's family

The daughter of Hrachya Harutyunyan, a 47-year-old Armenian national arrested in Russia over a fatal car crash, continues to receive letters of support from ordinary citizens. In an interview with "A1 + " Lilit Harutyunyan did not agree with the opinion that people have lost interest in the accident that triggered uproar in different circles. “We just do not have news,” she said adding that after the accident there were many who rendered financial assistance to her family. The accident occurred on July 13, 2013. The KamAZ truck loaded with gravel, driven by Hrachya Harutyunyan, rammed into a passenger at about 13:00 near the town of Podolsk. The truck was pulling out from a sideroad. The impact was so strong that the bus was ripped into two. As a result of the accident, 18 people were killed and more than 30 people were hospitalized. Court hearings of the case started on 15 July 2013. Harutyunyan was brought to court in in inappropriate attire – a woman’s robe. This sparked discontent and sharp criticism in Armenia and various actions of protests have been held in front of the Russian Embassy in Yerevan since16 July [watch photos]. Harutyunyan is facing seven years in prison on charges of violating traffic safety rules leading to the inadvertent killing of two or more people.
