The Standing Committee on Economic Affairs of the Armenian National Assembly today considered the fate of Nairit chemical plant. While the political majority [considering the political expediency] thinks that the discussion on the issue should be rescheduled, the opposition holds a different opinion on the matter. Vardan Ayvazyan, a lawmaker from the Republican party of Armenia (HHK), is against the creation of an ad hoc committee to review the issue of the factory. “That will be the best way to a funeral,” he said. The Armenian Revolutionary Federation-Dashnaktsutyun suggests discussing at the ad hoc committee meeting the reasons behind the plant’s appropriation and the failure to fulfill loan obligations. Ayvazyan believes that if the committee begins discussing the questions now, it will threaten the future operation of the plant. He called on his colleagues not to forget about Armenia’s interests. On the other hand, the Republican MP does not mind that those responsible for the deplorable state of the plant be held accountable.
