“MAKE USE OF COMMUNICATION OF THE NEIGHBOURING COUNTRY” , COMMUNICATION MINISTER ADVISES

Economy

An open meeting will be arranged during the coming month where Armenian Government will introduce Greek OTE Company leaders all the irregularities of clauses, envisaged under “Armentel” contract . Armenia’s stance over the above issue will as well be introduced.

It is not known yet whether OTE leaders will accept the offer for participation in the meeting or not. Armenian Minister for Communication and Transport says it will serve Armenia’s purposes if they fail to be present for the meeting.

At present the standpoint exists as if “Armentel” is ready to relinquish the monopoly in the city communication sphere of its own free will. Armenia’s Government didn’t accept the tariffs, regarding per minute payment which were suggested by “Armentel”. The Greeks don’t get the incomes they were expecting for.

Instead they are pleased with profitability of cellular communication in Armenia, not being worried about service quality.

Armenian Government has stated for many times as a result of checking and studies by Government Committee, it turned out that OTE commitment for 127 million $ investment hasn’t been met .

“When I met OTE leaders, I said: If you had really made an investment of 127 million $, communication quality in Armenia would have been better than in Greece. But unfortunately, it is not so ” , Andranik Manukyan, Armenian Minister of Communication and Transport, says.

MPs Hayk Babukhanyan and Viktor Dallakyan appeared with an initiative on depriving “Armentel” of monopoly. But the initiative won’t probably be discussed within the 3 days of Parliament.

”Unfortunately, “Armentel” is the only operator in Armenia and it may well be that we have no communication by depriving “Armentel” of monopoly”, Andranik Manukyan says.

Before solving the problem, the Minister advises residents of Armenia to enjoy “Artsakhtel” services in the cellular communication aspect. Artsakh’s cellular phones, unlike “Armentel” ones, function well in the territories of both Artsakh and Armenia.
