COMMUNICATION MINISTER OPPOSED TO ARMENTEL DEPRIVATION OF MONOPOLY

Economy

“Armentel has done $140 million in damage to the Republic of Armenia” said Arshak Sadoyan, the member of parliamentary commission engaged in examination of the company activity. He emphasised he had no intention to blame the Ministry of Communication for that situation saying the whole responsibility bears Justice Minister David Harutyunyan, who sighed up a document harmful for Armenia and defended Armentel’s right for monopoly in Constitutional Court in 1999.

Sadoyan demanded from the republic president to dismiss Harutyunyan. At the same time he said the president himself must resign.

Minister of Transport and Communication Andranik Manukyan explained that by 2003 Armentel must fulfil its commitments. “If it fails to do so, we’ll be able to strip the company of monopoly”, he said.

Minister assured all the presents that president Robert Kocharyan has nothing to do with the company privatisation saying the decision on privatisation has been made in March, 1996.
