CONSTRUCTION GOES ON IN VOROTAN-ARPA TONNEL
Support A1+!Vorotan-Arpa tonnel construction will be completed only if additional financial support is provided. The 1,5 billion Drams alloted for this tonnel maintenance out of the state budget are not enough to finally accomplish tonnel construction, says Head of the “Hydrotechnical structures” state establishment Mr Sargis Karapetyan.
The World Bank and other donor organizations refuse to provide financial support for the structure maintenance, since there is a contradiction on this matter with Azerbayjan, which also has the Vorotan River on his territory.
In any case the Armenian government has to find ammounts for the structure maintenance. 165 million cube meters of water will be annually moved through the 21 meter long tonnel connecting the storage pool of Spandaryan to that of Jermuk. 100 million cube meters will be used for energy and irrigation. The rest of water will keep the level in Sevan Lake.
